The tester features a digital LCD screen for clear readouts, along with intuitive buttons for powering on/off and resetting the value to zero. The instrument's working principle is based on the resistance force exerted by the test material against the sensing pin. Once pressure is applied, the sensor captures the force feedback, which is then translated into a digital hardness value. To ensure accuracy, the tester requires the sample to have a thickness of at least 6 mm or be layered to exceed the 18 mm pressure depth. The reading is taken by pressing the indenter into three different points on the material and calculating the average. For handheld use, the device must be pressed evenly against the surface for one second, after which it displays the hardness reading. A low battery warning is indicated by flashing digits on the screen, and replacing the battery is quick and straightforward with the removable cap on the back.
